The engine control module monitors the MAF circuit output, which may be represented by an analog, frequency-based, or other vehicle-specific signal, and compares it with expected airflow under the current operating conditions. P0102 is registered when the received input remains below the calibrated lower limit or is otherwise recognized as an abnormally low signal for the required evaluation period.
